5/6 | Pedras Salgadas Spa & Nature Park, PORTUGAL
Architecturally designed and cutting-edge are words that would describe the incredible tree houses.
The design for these tree houses arose from the challenge of fulfilling the imaginary image of the tree house but that also moved away from pre-established concepts associated with construction. These tree houses instead use a prototype lightweight, self-supporting construction and are covered in indigenous raw materials such as slate and wood. Designing the tree houses in such a way renders these buildings almost invisible – thus maintaining focus on the one-hundred-year-old park that surrounds the structures.
Sustainability and ecology were also constantly present in the development of this project. Use of reinforced coatings and insulation, the reuse of Blackwater, low energy consumption lighting systems using LED technology, all support this vision.
Inside, the tree houses have two windows, one overlooking the life in the forest, and another in the roof for stargazing. Each also boasts a bathroom divided into 2 parts, a kitchenette, a double bed and a sofa.
